Today fly from the city of your choice to Copenhagen.
Day 2 - Copenhagen
Arrive in “Wonderful Copenhagen”. Tonight enjoy world-famous Tivoli Gardens.
Day 3 - Copenhagen - Malmö, Sweden - Lund - Osby - Växjö
Pick up your rental car and depart Copenhagen to the “Kingdom of Sweden”. At the university city of Lund, see 12th Century Lund Cathedral. Continue through the province of Skåne to Osby to see the straw Christmas goats (julbock) and ornaments at Göinge Halmslöjd. Overnight inVäxjö.
Day 4 - Växjö - Kosta-Boda - Orrefors - Eksjö
This morning visit the Emigrant Institute, then continue deep into the forests of Småland to visit the crystal factories of Kosta-Boda and Orrefors in the world renowned “Crystal Kingdom”. Continue north to Eksjö to enjoy a walk in the charming16th & 17th century town center. Overnight in Eksjö.
Day 5 - Eksjö - Gränna - Stockholm
From Eksjö continue northwest to Lake Vättern (Sweden’s second largest lake), visit Gränna Glassworks and the polkagris (peppermint candy) capital of Gränna. In the province of Östergötland enjoy watching the boats on the Göta Canal at the Berg Locks before driving to Stockholm. Overnight in Stockholm.
Day 6 - Stockholm
Begin your day in Stockholm with a guided tour of this city. We suggest you see the impressive City Hall, the Royal Palace and the famous Wasa Ship Museum. Enjoy the afternoon exploring the narrow streets of Gamla Stan (Old Town), Skansen open-air museum, or visit the famous department stores of NK or Åhlen’s. Overnight in Stockholm.
Day 7 - Stockholm - Uppsala - Sundborn - Rättvik
Depart Stockholm driving north into the province of Uppland. Perhaps stop at Biskopskulla to see the little museum and church that Bishop Hill, Illinois was named after. Visit the famous Uppsala Cathedral before driving to the tradition-rich province of Dalarna. See the world’s largest Dala Horse at Avesta, and visit the home and studio of much-loved painter Carl Larsson, in Sundborn. Continue on to the beautiful Lake Siljan region to Rättvik for overnight.
Day 8 - Rättvik - Nusnäs - Mora - Karlstad
Today stop at the Rättvik Church where on summer Sundays, you can witness the natives in folk costume rowing to church in the historic church boats. At Nusnäs watch the fabrication of genuine Dala horses. After visiting the home of artist Anders Zorns in Mora, continue south through the forests and lakes of the province of Värmland to Karlstad, for overnight.
Day 9 - Karlstad - Oslo
This morning from Karlstad, continue on your choice of the following two itineraries #1A or #1B or travel into the Kingdom of Norway to Oslo.
#1A - Day 10 - Karlstad - Falköping - Habo - Alingsås - Gothenburg
Depart Karlstad driving south to Falköping in Västergötland to visit the peasant village of Åsle Tå. Visit Habo Church to see the famous biblical paintings covering the interior of the church. Continue to Alingsås to shop on the town square, before taking the short drive to Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden. This evening visit Liseberg Amusement Park. Overnight in Gothenburg.
Day 11 - Gothenburg - Helsingborg - Malmö
Depart Gothenburg and motor along the Coast towards Helsingborg. Along the way, visit the miniature village at Halmstad and the famous tennis resort of Båstad. In Helsingborg, perhaps visit Kärnan Castle to enjoy the view over to Helsingør, Denmark. From Helsingborg continue on to the city of Malmö. Overnight in Malmö.
#1B - Dalsland and the West Coast
Day 10 - Karlstad - Håverud - Ed - Tanumshede
From Karlstad drive to Håverud in the province of Dalsland to see the famous Dalsland Canal and aqueduct. A road bridge and rail viaduct cross here also and the ultimate souvenir photograph involves getting a shot of all three modes of transport crossing at once. Continue through Ed to Tanumshede to see Sweden’s most important and impressive rock carvings believed to be between 2500 and 3500 years old. Also see the recently built Vitlycke Museum. Overnight in Tanumshede or at a nearby coastal village.
Day 11 - Tanumshede - Coastal Villages - Gothenburg
Continue down the west coast of Sweden, taking the scenic drive through the coastal fishing villages to the city of Gothenburg. Why not visit the Liseberg Amusement Park this evening or take a shrimp cruise in the archipelago? Overnight in Gothenburg.
Day 12 - Gothenburg - Helsingborg - Malmö
Depart Gothenburg and motor along the coast towards Helsingborg. Along the way interesting stops include the miniature village at Halmstad and the famous tennis resort of Båstad. At Helsingborg, visit Kärnan Castle to enjoy the view over to Helsingør, Denmark. From Helsingborg continue on to the city of Malmö. Overnight in Malmö. |
