Day 1 - Travel and Departure U.S.A.
Depart from the city of your choice for Stockholm, Sweden.
Day 2 - Stockholm
Arrive in Stockholm. Enjoy a get-acquainted Stockholm city tour, seeing such sights as the City Hall, The Royal Palace, the Wasa Ship Museum and more. Overnight in Stockholm.
Day 3 - Stockholm - Sundborn - Falun - Rättvik
Leaving Stockholm, pay a short visit to the world’s largest Dala Horse at Avesta. Stop in the tiny village of Sundborn to visit artist Carl Larsson’s home, at Little Hyttnäs. At Falun, descend into the depths of the 700 year old Falun Copper Mine or visit Dalarnas Museum. Overnight in Rättvik on beautiful Lake Siljan.
Day 4 - Rättvik - Tällberg - Leksand - Siljansnäs - Rättvik
Today enjoy a full day in the Lake Siljan region as you take the short drive through the forests and along the lakeshore to Tällberg to visit this quaint village and its shops. Continue on the scenic “old road” to Leksand. Visit Jobs textile hand printing linen workshop. Make a coffee stop at the famous Buffil Anna’s Restaurant near Siljansnäs. You may want to walk over the footpath to the outlook tower to enjoy the magnificent view across Lake Siljan. Overnight at Vidablick/Hantverksbyn Hotel.
Day 5 - Rattvik - Nusnäs - Mora - Sollerön - Rättvik
This morning visit centuries old Rättvik church. On Sundays during the summer, you can watch the church boats arriving for services. Drive to the village of Nusnäs and the Hemslöjds of Nils and Grannas Olsson to see the fabrication of genuine Dala Horses. In the nearby town of Mora, visit the home and museum of artist Anders Zorn, who became one of Sweden’s most famous painters around the turn of the century. Also visit Zorns Gammelgården, a collection of old log buildings, some from the 13th Century. Drive onto the small island of Sollerön to look at the “Viking” graves from 1000 years ago. This evening perhaps enjoy a dinner cruise on Lake Siljan on the old ship M/S Gustaf Wasa. Overnight at Hantverksbyn/Vidablick Hotel.
Day 6 - Rättvik - Skattungbyn - Grönklitt - Våmhus - Mora - Rättvik
Spend the day with Mother Nature. Depart Rättvik and visit Stygforssen waterfall. Make a stop down from the church at Skattungbyn to enjoy the wonderful scenic view of the region. In season perhaps enjoy a lunch at a high-pasture ”fäbod” farm. Also visit ”Grönklitt”, Europe’s largest natural bear park. How about some last minute shopping in Mora before returning to Rättvik? Overnight at Vidablick/Hantverksbyn Hotel.
Day 7 - Rättvik - Insjön - Borlänge - Stockholm
After experiencing the richness of Dalarna return to Stockholm today. On your way, visit the village of Insjön and stop at Insjöns Väveri for factory direct prices on quality woven goods. Stop in Uppsala to see Uppsala Cathedral, Scandinavia’s largest cathedral. Arrive in Stockholm in the afternoon. Perhaps enjoy a dinner cruise on the M/S Östanå boat this evening in the famous Stockholm Archipelago. Overnight in Stockholm. |
