The cost of your flight from Stockholm will vary if you do not use SAS for transatlantic travel. If you fly SAS on the transatlantic portion of your tour then you will be eligible to purchase a round-trip ticket from Stockholm to Luleå and Kiruna to Stockholm for
a reduced price. Hotels will cost approximately $20.00 extra per night in Northern Sweden.
Day 1 - Stockholm - Luleå - Älvsbyn - Storforsen
Depart Arlanda Airport in the early morning and fly to Luleå. Upon arrival, pick up your rental car at the airport. The distance from Stockholm to Luleå is approximately 550 miles. Visit the church village at Gammelstaden in Luleå, and the open-air museum called Hägnan, now on UNESCO’s world heritage list. Continue past Älvsbyn to visit the impressive Storforsen waterfall,
Europes’ largest free waterfall with a drop of 267 feet. Overnight at Hotel Storforsen with a view of the waterfall.
Day 2 - Storforsen - Jokkmokk - - Porjus - Gällivare/Malmberget
This morning pass over the Arctic Circle. Arrive in Jokkmokk to visit the Ajtte Museum, a Swedish mountain and Sami (Lapp) museum. Also visit ”Jokkmokks Tenn” where you may shop and watch the manufacture of pewter objects of Sami origination. Travel north to see the old hydroelectric power station at Porjus then continue to Gällivare/Malmberget. In the late evening drive up to the top of Dundret Nature Reserve Mountain to experience ”The Midnight Sun” phenomenon during certain days during the summer. Overnight in Gällivare.
Day 3 - Gällivare - Kiruna - Jukkasjärvi - Kiruna - Stockholm
From Gällivare continue on to Kiruna. In Kiruna visit the LKAB Mine. Stop at the Sami Handwork Cooperative in Jukkasjärvi as well and see the remains of the internationally renowned Ice Hotel. Visit the special old Sami Church which has the unique altar painting by artist Bror Hjort. Return to Kiruna for the flight back to Stockholm. |
