Depart USA for Stockholm (D on board)
Depart from Chicago O’Hare International Airport to Stockholm, Sweden. Or request international departure from the city of your choice, dependent upon availability.
Day 2 Wednesday, July 2
Arrival in Stockholm (B on flight, D)
Arrive Stockholm Arlanda Airport. Transfer by motor coach to Stockholm. Get acquainted with Stockholm on a guided tour of City Hall, the Wasa Ship Museum, Embassy Row and Millesgården. Millesgården on the island of Lidingö, is the incredible sculpture park featuring the works of world famous artist Carl Milles. Transfer to your hotel for check-in. Free time this afternoon to rest or explore the city. Your tour guide will be available to help with suggestions. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Tapto or similar. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 Thursday, July 3
Stockholm (B)
Stockholm is a beautiful city built on islands connected by bridges and walkways, earning it the nickname “The Venice of the North”. This morning enjoy a visit to Riddarholm Island and Riddarholm Church, the final resting place of three centuries of Swedish royalty. On Old Town Island where Stockholm Cathedral, the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan (Old Town) are located, enjoy a guided tour of the Royal Palace followed by a guided walkabout in Gamla Stan. The afternoon is free. Of interest on your own: the Crown Jewels in the basement vault of the Royal Palace, the Nordic Museum, Astrid Lindgren’s museum or the open air park/museum of Skansen, “Sweden In A Nutshell”. Dinner your own. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Tapto or similar.
Day 4: Friday, July 4
Stockholm (B)
Enjoy a free day to explore Stockholm or outlying areas. Perhaps take the train to Uppsala to visit the Uppsala Cathedral, Uppsala University, Carl Linneaus (Carl von Linné) Museum, the royal burial mounds and Gamla Uppsala Museum or Dag Hammarskjöld’s grave. Your tour guide will be available to help with suggestions. Dinner on your own. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Tapto or similar.
Day 5: Saturday, July 5
Stockholm - Drottningholm Palace - Haga
Park - Stockholm (B)
This morning enjoy a guided tour of Drottningholm Palace, home of the Swedish Royal Family. Walk the short distance to China Palace and Drottningholm Theater, largely unchanged since the era of Gustav III in the late 1700’s. Upon returning to the city stop at the Haga Park, close to the downtown and a popular place for Stockholmers on weekends. In 1950, King Gustaf VI Adolf, the grandfather of the present king, defied tradition by choosing to be buried in open ground; his burial place is Gustafs Pavilion in Haga Park. Day 6: Sunday, July 6
Stockholm - Vaxholm - Stockholm (B, D)
This morning enjoy a boat ride through the inner Stockholm Archipelago and out to the Vaxholm Fortress, built in the 16th Century by King Gustav Vasa “in order that the archipelago and approaches to Stockholm may in no way be occupied by enemies and essential supplies thus hindered”. Free time in Vaxholm to shop or visit the Homestead Museum located in a century-old fishing cottage. Return to Stockholm in mid afternoon and have the rest of the afternoon free. Enjoy a farewell dinner this evening at a local restaurant. Overnight at Clarion Hotel Tapto or similar.
Day 7: Monday, July 7
Departure to USA (B)
This morning transfer by bus to Arlanda Airport for mid morning departure to USA.
