DAY 1: Wednesday, July 17th
Departure from USA to Sweden
 
For those of you joining this tour in Sweden, depart from the city of your  
choice to Stockholm, Sweden(Venice of the North).

 
OR:
 
If coming off of the Midnight Sun Tour and joining this tour you will have a free  
afternoon getting acclimated to the bustle of this largest city in  
Sweden. Please contact us for hotel reservations.

DAY 2: Thursday, July 18th

Meals Included: Breakfast (on flight) and Dinner
Stockholm

Arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport at around Noon. Transfer to Stockholm Centrum. An exciting tour of the city includes City Hall, the Wasa Ship Museum, Embassy Row and more as well as the Changing of the Guard at the Royal Palace. Lunch on your own at Millesgården on the island of Lidingö. Tour Millesgården, a wonderful sculpture park featuring the works of world famous artist Carl Milles.

 
We continue to our hotel for several nights the Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto for check-in. Free time this afternoon. Early evening buffet at the hotel and free time after dinner. Stockholm has modern and safe public transportation, you may wish to acquaint yourself with the bus and subway system. Your guide/escort will be happy to help you. Dinner and overnight in Stockholm.

DAY 3: Friday, July 19th

Stockholm
 
Stockholm is a beautiful city built on islands connected by bridges and walkways  earning it the nickname “The Venice of the North”. This morning we will enjoy a visit Riddarholm Island to see Riddarholm Church, the final resting place of three centuries of Swedish royalty.
 
Your next stop is Old Town Island where Stockholm Cathedral, the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan (Old Town) are located. Free time after a tour of Gamla Stan. The Crown Jewels can be viewed on your own, in the basement vault of the Royal Palace. Dinner at the hotel. Free time after dinner. Overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

DAY 4: Saturday, July 20th

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner
Stockholm, Uppsala, & Stockholm.

After breakfast, we travel to Uppsala for a fun and informative tour of Uppsala Cathedral, and Gamla Uppsala Historical Center Museum, built within view of the fascinating and mysterious Royal Viking burial mounds. Stop at Linneaus Gardens, Sweden’s oldest botanical gardens with over 1300 species in cultivation.

 
After lunch on your own in Uppsala and some free time, we return to Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden. Along the way we will make a stop in Sigtuna to see the 1000 year old Main Street and church ruins. This evening we will enjoy a delightful dinner cruise in the Stockholm Archipelago. Overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

DAY 5: Sunday, July 21st

Stockholm, Drottningholm Palace, Haga Park & Stockholm again

This morning travel by boat to Drottningholm Palace, home of the Swedish Royal Family. After touring this lovely royal castle, walk to China Palace, a unique smaller palace largely unknown to visitors, situated in the beautiful gardens of Drottningholm Palace. Lunch on your own at Drottningholm. Upon returning to the city, stop at the  
Haga Park.

 
In 1950, the grandfather of the present king, King Gustaf VI Adolf, chose to defy tradition and be buried in open ground, his burial place is Gustafs Pavilion in Haga Park. The park is close to the downtown and is a popular place for Stockholmers on weekends. Dinner and overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

On Monday, our tour continues to the Swedish island of Gotland. This is the fifth time we are offering an escorted tour to visit the ancient city of Visby and the island of Gotland, Sweden and to learn more about the medieval times and the Vikings.

 
This is the perfect chance to visit the island of Gotland, which is not a major destination for Americans, and enjoy a once in a lifetime experience. Set your watch back 700 years!

DAY 6: Monday, July 22nd

Stockholm & Visby, Gotland 

We will depart Stockholm Arlanda on a local bus to Nynäshamn where we will board the cruise boat to Visby, Gotland. We arrive late morning in the capital city of Visby and will then proceed to our hotel for check-in.

 
After check-in, we will begin our stay in Visby with a walking tour of Visby "the town of roses", seeing such sights as the old Hanseatic Harbor, the Botanical Gardens, and the ruins of the Dominican Monastery of St. Nicholas. Free time to explore the city on your own in the late afternoon.
 
The wall around Visby is still virtually intact with 44 towers and numerous gates, and is one of Europe's best preserved structures from the Middle Ages. Tonight we enjoy a traditional Gotland dinner at Rosengården Restaurant. 
 
Your evening will be free to explore this medieval city of Visby, existing today much as it has for centuries. Overnight in Visby at a four-star hotel.

DAY 7: Tuesday, July 23rd

Visby, Gotland Tour & Visby again

This morning we enjoy a delicious Gotland breakfast and afterwards we will visit fascinating archaeological sites and scenery on Sweden's largest island. We will have a chance to view the famous "picture stones"; predecessors of the rune stones. These picture stones are unique to the island of Gotland.
 
Also visit the very spot that marks the real end of the Viking Age in Sweden. A fierce battle "slaget vid Visby" with the Danes took place here in 1361, putting a stop to the wanderlust of the Vikings and forcing them to settle down. Tonight we will enjoy a medieval dinner at the thatch-roofed restaurant called Strandskogen on the island of Fårö before returning to Visby. Overnight in Visby at our four-star hotel.

DAY 8: - Wednesday, July 24th

Visby Gotland
 
After breakfast this morning we will drive to the north of Visby where we will visit Lummellundagrottorna, the impressive caves created out of limestone and their magnificent stalactites. Lunch on your own today. We will meet as a group in the afternoon to visit the Fornsal Läns Museum which contains collections of some of Sweden's most important Viking finds. Dinner and overnight in Visby at our four-star hotel.

DAY 9: - Thursday, July 25th

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner
Visby & Stockholm
 
This morning after breakfast you will have more free time to explore the walled city of Visby on your own. Be sure to explore the numerous shops and the cafés. Lunch on your own and then you will have your last chance to buy that last souvenir before departing.
 
We will meet back at the hotel at 2:00 p.m. to get ready to depart to the cruise   ship terminal for the return boat trip to Nynäshamn. Dinner on the cruise ship. Upon arrival, Bus ride from Nynäshamn to our hotel in Stockholm  the Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

DAY 10: Friday, July 26th

Meals Included: Breakfast
Tour Ends In Stockholm
 
After breakfast your Stockholm Explorer and Viking Gotland Tour experience  
ends.
