Measuring the Mountain

"Markings" is a book that once was on every person's shelf. I would venture to say that it still is. The sad part is that most people have not even looked at it. After you open it you immediately are swept into the thoughts of someone who died many years ago. This man lived in another generation, in different times, but his thoughts on life and God and the world are amazingly relevant.
"Never measure the height of a mountain, until you have reached the top." This is a classic bit of Hammarskjold's classic advice, but it comes with experience. He learned these things the hard way and wrote them down.
Don't count the cost of something until you are done with it. Then, and maybe only then, you will see that the cost was not as much compared with where you finally get to. Imagine what the world would be like if some of the people who achieved the most calculated the cost before they acted?
What a different world.
