Day 1 - Sunday,  AUGUST 11th

Departure from Chicago USA - Copenhagen, Denmark

Today TourSweden Tours group departs on our overnight Trans-Atlantic flight from Chicago to Copenhagen, Denmark. Join us from various cities in the USA.

Day 2 - Monday, AUGUST 12th

Arrival in Copenhagen, Denmark

Meals Included: Breakfast on flight and Dinner

After we arrive midday at Kastrup Airport, we will have a guided tour of "Wonderful Copenhagen." This will include the beautiful "Little Mermaid" statue on the bay by the water. On this tour we will also see Amalienborg Palace, the Danish Queen Margarethe's(Longest reigning monarch in Europe) residence and much more.

 

Copenhagen is an amazing city! After dinner we will  overnight in Copenhagen at Hotel Absalon. Free time to visit Tivoli Gardens and amusement park. 

Day 3 - Tuesday, AUGUST 13th
Copenhagen - Malmö, Sweden - Lund - Hässleholm - Växjö

TourSweden Tours group departs Copenhagen this morning. We will cross over to Sweden on the remarkable Öresund Bridge to Malmö where we enter the “Kingdom of Sweden”.

 

Thought to have been founded around 1275, Malmö was an important part of the Hanseatic League, was home to one of the world’s largest shipyards and until the 1970’s was an industrial leader.  We will spend some time in the Stortorget and Lilla Torget area taking in the half-timbered buildings and open markets.

 

We then travel to the city of Lund, where more half-timbered buildings from the 16th century blend seamlessly into the modern landscape. We will visit 12th-century Lund Cathedral with its amazing Astronomical Clock from around the year 1424 A.D..

 

We continue to Växjö to visit the extensive museum at the Emigrant Institute(Utvandrarnas Hus). Between 1840 and 1930 about 1.3 million Swedes emigrated to America and one out of twenty-five Americans living today have Swedish ancestors. Dinner and overnight in Växjö at Clarion Collection Hotel Cardinal.

Day 4 - Wednesday, AUGUST 14th
Växjö - Kosta Boda, Målerås - Eksjö - Jönköping

This morning we drive through the forests of Småland to the world renowned “Crystal Kingdom”. We'll enjoy visiting and shopping at the 279 year old crystal factory of Kosta-Boda in the village of Kosta. Then continue on to the famous Målerås Glassworks factory famous for Mats Jonasson etched glass. From Målerås we drive north, still in the province of Småland, to Eksjö for a walking tour in the charming old town center from the 16th and 17th Centuries, relatively unchanged since that time period. Late afternoon we will continue to Jönköping ,where we will enjoy dinner and overnight at Clarion Collection Hotel Victoria.  TourSweden Tours has taken you to the southern tip of Lake Vättern,  Sweden's second largest lake.

Day 5 - Thursday, AUGUST 15th

Jönköping - Gränna -  Mantorp - Berg Locks (Göta Kanal) - and Stockholm

In the morning as we drive along the Eastern shoreline of Lake Vättern (Sweden’s second largest lake) we will make a stop at the town of Gränna, the polkagris (peppermint candy) capital of Sweden.

 

We will watch the candy being made and will be able to buy from the factory-direct shop at Franssons' Polkagris Fabrik. On the way to Berg we will make a stop at a Chocolate factory near Ödeshög and then see the Rökstenen(Rök Runestone) from the Viking Age) and also along the way we stop at Mantorp.

 

In Mantorp TourSweden Tours group will visit the Mantorps Glasbruk for a demonstration of glassblowing by their Master Glassblower. This is where the famous crystal Blue Birds of Happiness are made as well as other objects such as crystal dala horses and crystal decorative blocks.

 

At the village of Berg near Vreta Koster, we will stop at the Berg Locks(Bergs Slussar) on the Göta Canal to watch the boats navigate the locks on this the largest set of locks along the Canal.

We continue on to Stockholm the capital city of Sweden. Dinner and overnight in Stockholm at Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

Day 6 - Friday,  AUGUST 16th

Stockholm

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Today will be a full day in Stockholm beginning with a guided tour of this beautiful city, also known as "Venice of the North".

 

We will tour the impressive City Hall(Stadshuset), the famous Wasa Ship Museum(Vasamuseet) and observe the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace(Kungliga Slottet). After lunch on our own in nearby Gamla Stan(Old Town) you can do some more exploring and shopping on your own on the narrow streets of Gamla Stan (Old Town). We'll take a photo op from the heights of Södermalm. One the way to Skansen we will see Embassy Row.

​

TourSweden Tours will provide transportation to visit Skansen Outdoor Museum on your own. Skansen is also known as "Sweden in a Nutshell". Dinner and overnight in Stockholm again at Clarion Collection Hotel Tapto.

Day 7 - Saturday, AUGUST 17th

Stockholm - Uppsala - Avesta - Sundborn - Rättvik

Our TourSweden Tours group heads north into the province of Uppland to the university town of Uppsala to tour the inspiring Uppsala Cathedral. Construction of the cathedral began in the thirteenth century, took more than a century to complete and is the largest cathedral in Scandinavia.

 

We continue to the tradition-rich province of Dalarna, stopping at Avesta to see the world’s largest Dala Horse, weighing in at 67 tons. In the small village of Sundborn outside of Falun, we will visit the home and studio of beloved artists Carl & Karin Larsson as well as the Sundborn Church.

 

We will pay a visit to the Sundborn Hembygdsgård before continuing on to Rättvik. Still in Sundborn we will enjoy dinner and entertainment at the Vicarage from the 18th century. Then  overnight at Hotel Stiftsgården. The hotel is situated in an idyllic part of Rättvik very near Lake Siljan, a favorite of TourSweden Tours.

Day 8 - Sunday, AUGUST 18th
Rättvik - Nusnäs - Mora, - Karlstad

TourSweden Tours group first stop of the day will be at the Rättvik Church for a visit in the Church and to see the old horse stable log buildings from the 1700's. Farther up the road at Nusnäs we will witness the genuine Dala horses(Mora Hästar) being made and hand-painted by local craftspeople. We take the short jaunt into  Mora to tour Zorngården, the fantastic home of world-renowned artist Anders Zorn. We continue through the forests of the provinces of Dalarna and Värmland to Karlstad on the shores of Lake Vänern(Europe's third largest lake). On the way to Karlstad, we will stop to see the fantastic Iron Crosses at Ekshärad Church. Dinner and overnight in Karlstad at Clarion Collection Hotel Bilan. One  point of interest on your own would be to stroll over to the 18th Century stone bridge still being used today.

Day 9 - Monday, AUGUST 19th

Karlstad - Oslo, Norway

This morning Tour Sweden Tours departs Karlstad and drive west towards the Kingdom of Norway  and over the border to Oslo(to check on the Norwegian neighbors), the capital city of Norway.

 

Upon arrival we will enjoy a delightful guided tour of this 1000 - year old city. Some of the sights we will see include the Kon Tiki Museum(Thor Heyerdahl, the Viking Ship Museum(closed for renovations until 2025), The Vigeland statues in Frogner Park. See the view of the city from the Holmenkollen Ski Jump, site of the 1952 Winter Olympics.

 

Enjoy some relaxing and reflection time in the late afternoon and evening after dinner. Dinner and overnight in Oslo at one of the Clarion Collection Hotels.

Day 10 - Tuesday, AUGUST 20th
Oslo - Bergen

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

Depart Early morning on the Oslo to Bergen mountain train, through the valleys, into the mountains, over the high plateau, then down into the West Coast City of Bergen. All in all about a 7 hour train ride taking in fantastic scenery along the way.  Mid-afternoon arrival in Bergen.  We will enjoy a guided tour of this charming city of Bergen, which includes the Hanseatic League Quarter, Bryggen (The Warehouse District), the Fish Markets. Dinner and overnight in Bergen at Hotel Zander K. Free time perhaps to ride the Funicular to the top of the mountain or go back to the Warehouse district for more sightseeing.

Day 11 - Wednesday, AUGUST 21st

Bergen - "Norway in a Nutshell Fjord Tour - Bergen

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner.

 

This morning we depart on the world famous "Norway In A Nutshell" tour, taking the train to Myrdal where we will board the Flåm mountain train. This train descends 2,900 feet in 12 short miles through breathtaking scenery to the fjord village of Flåm. In Flåm, board the fjord boat to cruise the Aurlandsfjord and the narrowest of fjords, the Nærøyfjord to the village of Gudvangen.

 

We continue on by bus towards the village of Voss. On the way we pay a visit to the famous Stalheim Hotel Grounds with views of the valley below. Visit their gift shop and perhaps the famous Nazi bunker from World War II.  In Voss, we will visit the memorial to the famous Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne. Rockne was born in Voss(Rokne) and emigrated to America with his family when he was five years old. We will enjoy a dinner at the Voss Hotel before we continue by train back to Bergen for overnight at Hotel Zander K.
 

Time to pack for your return to the United States or if everything is ready to go, enjoy some free time walking in the Warehouse District. Free time in the evening.  Overnight again at Hotel Zander K. Tour SwedenTours escort will go over tomorrow morning's schedule with departure with everyone.

Day 12 - Thursday, August 22nd

Bergen, Norway - Departure to USA 

Meals Included: Breakfast and (lunch and dinner on flights)

 

Transfer by bus or taxi bus to Bergen’s Flesland Airport for the return flight to The U.S.A.. Scandinavian Delights tour ends at entrance to security checks at airport.
