Tour Itinerary 

DAY 1:  Thursday, December 7th

Flight to Stockholm

Meals Included: Dinner on flight

Depart on your overnight transatlantic flight for Stockholm, Sweden. Please let us know your requested departure city.




Day 3: Saturday, December 9th

Stockholm

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- After breakfast enjoy time in Gamla Stan, Stockholm's famous Old Town

- Sightseeing and Relaxation Time

- Browse the booths at the Christmas market here.

- Additional  sightseeing: Storkyrkan, or the Great Church, where many royal weddings have taken place

- Another good sightseeing option: the Medieval Museum, Medeltidsmuseet, and see how Stockholm look in the 14th and 15th Centuries

- View the Crown Jewels in the basement vault of the adjacent Royal Palace

- In the later afternoon we will enjoy a traditional Swedish Smörgåsbord in a local restaurant featuring many, many courses of Christmas foods

- You will never see another Smörgåsbord that rivals the spread laid out at Christmastime in Sweden

- Dinner at our hotel and Overnight again in Stockholm


DAY 2: Friday, December 8th

Stockholm

Meals Included: On-Flight Breakfast and Dinner

- Arrive late morning in Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.

- You will be met outside the Customs Doors by your tour guide who will be with you for the entire tour.

- Enjoy a guided tour of wondrous Stockholm which will include the City Hall, The Wasa Ship Museum and a view from Fjellgatan, the highest point in Stockholm. From here one can look out over the Stockholm Archipelago and also view this city of islands(Venice of the North).

- Dinner at the hotel and overnight.

Day 4: Sunday, December 10th

Stockholm

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- The famous Open-Air Museum of Skansen

- The Skansen Christmas Fair. Enjoy traditional handcrafts, homemade beads, cakes, sausages, candles, music, and dancing.

- Church services and advent music will be held at the Seglora Church (building originally from the province of Västergötland).

- We will pay a visit to the Nordiska Museet(Nordic Museum), just across the street from Skansen.

- The rest of the day you will be at your leisure in Skansen or nearby downtown for Christmas Shopping in the famous NK and Åhléns Department stores (We will provide transportation to downtown).

- This evening we will enjoy a Christmas Concert at a local church.

- Dinner at the hotel and Overnight.



Day 5: Monday, December 11th

Stockholm to Rättvik 

Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner 

- Depart Stockholm and ride through the beautiful Swedish countryside to Rättvik in the tradition rich province of Dalarna.

- Check in at the Dala Wärdshus Hotel, your home for the next four nights. Your hosts the Jäderbinks, and their staff, are here to help you to experience the traditions of a Swedish Christmas in this small community of cozy log cabins, quaint shops and beautiful scenery.

- Enjoy a welcome buffet lunch at our hotel.

- Your days and nights will be filled with the delightful sights, sounds and flavors of Sweden at Christmas time.

- Afternoon free to explore.

- Dinner and overnight in Rättvik.

DAYS 6 and 7:  

Tuesday and Wednesday  

December 12th and 13th

(Lucia Day)

Rättvik, Lake Siljan Area

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

 

- Spend the next two days exploring the beautiful Lake Siljan area: At Nusnäs, visit the workshop of Nils Olsson.

- Watch as expert craftsmen carve and paint genuine Mora Dala Horses right before your eyes.

- Enjoy plenty of time to look around or relax.

- Shop in the extensive gift shop or enjoy a cup of coffee or some sweets at the coffee shop.

- Stroll across the street to Grannas Olsson's for more shopping.

- In the nearby town of Mora tour the amazing log home of world-renowned artist Anders Zorn and also the adjacent Zornmuseet (Zorn Art Museum).

- Day trips also include: Enjoying a tour of the home and studio of beloved artist Carl Larsson and wife Karin, in the village of Sundborn.

- Downtown Falun visit the Dalarnas Museum.

- In the evenings, inside the cozy warmth of the main lodge, learn the etiquette of drinking the Swedish Christmas drink of Glögg, make your own Swedish style Christmas decorations, and learn to carve your own Dala Horse and paint in the traditional Kurbits (Swedish Floral patterns) style.

- Enjoy fun filled Christmas dance games and delightful music.

 

- December 13 is Lucia Day

- Enjoy the beautiful music of the Lucia Concert at Rättvik Church this morning and then breakfast at Dala Wärdshus. 

Day 8: Thursday, December 14th
Rättvik to Stockholm

Meals Included: Breakfast and Dinner

 

- After breakfast depart for Stockholm stopping along the way at Insjöns Väveri, Purveyors to the Royal Swedish Court, in the village of Insjön, for Swedish woven runners and cloths at factory prices.

- Before crossing over the provincial border to Uppland we will make a stop for lunch at the Welcome Center at the World's largest Dala Horse in Avesta.

- We depart the province of Dalarna where we have experienced so many special Swedish Christmas Traditions.

- We make a stop at Uppsala Cathedral in the city of Uppsala.

- Dinner and Overnight near Stockholm/Arlanda Airport.

DAY 9: Friday, December 15th  

Flight Home

Meals Included: Breakfast and On-Flight Lunch

 

- This morning transfer to Stockholm/Arlanda Airport for departure home.
