Tour Itinerary

 

 

Day 1 - Tuesday, September 4
Departure from U.S.A.

Included: Dinner on Flight

​

- Departure on your overnight transatlantic flight to Bergen, Norway.

(Various gateway cities for departure are an option)

Day 2 - Wednesday, September 5

Flesland Airport - Bergen, Norway

Included: Breakfast on flight and Dinner

- Arrival today in the the Norwegian West Coast city of Bergen "The Gateway to the Fjords."

- We transfer to our hotel and on the way from the airport enjoy a get-acquainted tour of the city.

- Hanseatic Quarter, the Fish Market

- Other sights w in Bergen.

- During our stay in Bergen, be sure to enjoy the panoramic view of the city by riding the Funicular (Cable Car) up the mountain (cost not included)

- Dinner and overnight in Bergen

Day 3 - Thursday, September 6

Bergen - "Norway In A Nutshell" - Oslo

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- "Norway in A Nutshell" Tour

- Depart Bergen by train to the mountain town of Myrdal 

- In Voss the Knute Rockne Memorial (Rockne was born in Voss and emigrated to America when he was five years old).

- Along the way, beautiful Stalheim Canyon

- At Gudvangen the breath-taking cruise up the Nærøyfjord (narrowest in Europe)

- Then down the Aurlandsfjord to the village of Flåm.

Railway Museum and shop for souvenirs.

- At Flåm we will board the famous Flåm Mountain Railway ascending 2,900 feet in 12 short miles to the village of Myrdal.

- At Myrdal we board the Bergen to Oslo train traveling over plateaus, mountains and valleys to the City of Oslo.

- Dinner on the train and then overnight in Oslo.

Day 4 -Friday, September 7

Oslo - Depart for Copenhagen

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- City tour of Oslo: Vigeland Park, Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki Museum, The Viking Ship Museum and more.

- Free time to see the Akershus Castle and the World War II Resistance Museum, the Norwegian Folk Museum with its Stave Church, Oslo's walking street with its many shops and restaurants to the Royal Palace, home of Norway's King and Queen. 

- Late afternoon boarding of DFDS Scandinavian Seaways Cruise Ship for the overnight cruise to Copenhagen. 

- Enjoy the Oslo Fjord scenery, with its boat traffic and lovely holiday homes.

- A Scandinavian Smörgåsbord dinner in the scenic dining room.

- Overnight in your outside facing cabin of the Scandinavian Seaways Cruise Ship.

Day 5 - Saturday September 8

Arrival in Copenhagen - Copenhagen

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- Large buffet breakfast on board, so large you probably won't be too hungry for lunch!

- Arrive in Copenhagen

- A get-acquainted tour of the city awaits us

- The Little Mermaid Statue near the harbor, the outside of Amalienborg Palace the residence of the Queen (Queen Margarethe was born just six days after the Nazis occupied Denmark during World War II)

- The canals and shopping areas, the old harbor of Nyhavn (where Hans Christian Andersen resided)

- Open time in downtown Copenhagen

Tivoli Gardens for dinnner

- Shopping, entertainment, amusement rides, and shopping

- Overnight in Copenhagen

Day 6 - Sunday, September 9

Copenhagen - Malmö - Ystad - Kåseberga - Karlshamn - Kalmar - Öland - Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- Depart "Wonderful Copenhagen" crossing the Öresund Bridge over to the Swedish city of Malmö

- Malmö and the town of Ystad see the centuries-old half-timbered buildings from the days this province of Skåne (South Sweden) belonged to Denmark

- Along the south coast of Sweden to Kåseberga to see the mysterious stone ship settings called Ales Stenar (erected as far back as 500 BCE) 

- To the province of Blekinge to Karlshamn, the "Emigrant Monument" honoring those who left Sweden for America in the Nineteenth Century

- The beautiful province of Småland

- At Kalmar we will cross the four mile bridge over the Kalmarsund stretch of water to the island of Öland

- Overnight and dinner at a country inn

Day 7 - Monday,  September 10

Öland - Kalmar - "Crystal Kingdom" - Eksjö - Jönköping

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- After Breakfast, back over the Ölands' Bridge to the Swedish mainland to tour the 800 year old Kalmar Castle (Once a vital defense post on the old border to Denmark, the original castle still stands from the 14th Century)

- Deep in the forests of Småland in the "Crystal Kingdom" we will tour the 276 year-old crystal works of Kosta Boda and enjoy shopping in the Factory Outlet Store

- Also will see one of the smaller crystal works in the area

- North om the provincial countryside to the old town of Eksjö

- A walking tour discovering the well-preserved wooden buildings and homes from the 16th and 17th Centuries

- To Jönköping for dinner and overnight on the southern end of Lake Vättern.

Day 8 - Tuesday, September 11

Jönköping - Gränna - Rök - Mantorp - Berg Locks (Göta Canal) - Linköping - Stockholm

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- Depart Jönköping, ride along the eastern edge of Lake Vättern to the village of Gränna, made famous by its many polkagris or striped peppermint candy manufacturing outlets.

- Östergötland, near the village of Rök to see one of Sweden's best-preserved Viking-Age rune stones- the Rökstenen

Mantorps Glasbruk- glassblowing demonstration 
- Bergs Slussar (Berg Locks) on the Göta Canal seeyou will witness the boats making their way through the largest lock system here at the village of Berg.

Linköping we will tour the open-air museum of Gamla Linköping (Old Town), a town much like it was in the 1800's.

- We continue on to Stockholm, the capital city of Sweden, the "Venice of the North", the capital city of Sweden- early evening arrival

- Dinner and overnight in Stockholm.

Day 9 - Wednesday, September 12

Stockholm

Included: Breakfast and Dinner

- Tour this City of Islands

- Stadshuset (City Hall), Embassy Row, Wasa Ship Museum, the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace and Gamla Stan (Old Town) on the guided tour

- Skansen Open-Air Museum also called "Sweden In A Nutshell". 

- Open Time for shopping and visiting other museums: the NK or Åhlens department stores

- Dinner and overnight in Stockholm

Day 10 - Thursday, September 13

Stockholm - Arlanda Airport - Departure to USA

Included: Breakfast and Lunch on Flight

- North to the airport for our flight back to USA.

(Our tour guide's responsibility ends when you enter the airport security check system)

You may want to consider joining the Visit to Dalarna Tour for four days or simply ride along and explore on your own by renting a car in the province of Dalarna.
